Nashville, TN (July 21, 2026) – A high-speed collision on Bell Road on Sunday left two people hurt after a fleeing driver struck another vehicle stopped at a red light. The wreck happened after officers attempted to stop a Chevy Equinox in Nashville.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Brian Williams, allegedly sped away after officers tried to stop the SUV for failing to make a complete stop while leaving a gas station near Dickerson Pike and Ewing Dr. The vehicle was later tracked through Nashville before spike strips were attempted on Bell Rd.

According to court documents, Williams drove into oncoming traffic and hit a vehicle occupied by a woman waiting at a traffic signal. The woman inside that vehicle had a head injury, and both vehicles were disabled.

Williams left the wreck site on foot but was later taken into custody. A woman inside the Equinox, identified as the vehicle owner, told officers she had been riding with Williams while delivering food and had asked to leave after the pursuit began. She was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.

The review of the circumstances surrounding the collision is still underway. We are thinking of those hurt as they continue receiving care.

What Factors Are Reviewed After High-Speed Roadway Accidents?

High-speed roadway accidents are often examined by examining vehicle movement, traffic patterns, and driver actions. Investigators may review available video footage, witness accounts, and vehicle damage to understand how the accident occurred. Speed, lane changes, and traffic signals can all affect the severity of a roadway accident. Busy streets may create added risks because drivers have less time to react to sudden changes. Safety practices, including following traffic rules and avoiding dangerous driving, can help reduce the risk of serious injuries. Clear information from those involved can also help provide a better picture of how these types of accidents happen.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
