Newark, DE (June 1, 2026) – Two drivers were hurt Monday morning, June 1, in a collision involving a crossover vehicle and a tractor-trailer in Newark. The accident was reported around 6:56 a.m. on Christina Parkway at Science Boulevard.
Emergency units arrived and found the driver of the crossover trapped inside the vehicle. The driver, a 27-year-old woman, was freed after about 15 minutes.
The tractor-trailer driver, a 42-year-old man, also had extremity injuries. He was taken to the same hospital in stable condition.
Newark police are continuing to review the wreck and the factors that led up to it. We are keeping both injured drivers in our thoughts as they receive care.
What Can Make Tractor-Trailer Collisions Especially Serious?
Crashes involving tractor-trailers can be severe because of the size and weight difference between large trucks and smaller vehicles. A crossover or passenger vehicle offers less protection when it is involved with a heavy commercial vehicle.
Trapped occupants may also require extra time before medical care can fully begin. This can affect how quickly injuries are assessed and treated. Internal trauma can be especially concerning because it may not be visible right away.
Road layout, traffic signals, turning movements, and vehicle positions often help explain how two vehicles came together. Investigators may also review driver statements, nearby cameras, and physical evidence from the vehicles. These details can help clarify the timeline and the force involved.
