South Hutchinson, KS (July 28, 2026) – Two drivers were injured on Sunday, July 26, in a two-vehicle collision south of South Hutchinson. The vehicles came together around 3:40 p.m. at the junction of K-14 and K-96.

A 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling north on K-14 and entered the intersection. An eastbound 2011 Honda Accord then struck the Tahoe, which overturned in the median.

The Tahoe was driven by a 16-year-old from Manchester, Kentucky. An 18-year-old Hutchinson resident was operating the Honda. Both drivers were taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Fortunately, the four Tahoe passengers, including one person under 18, were not hurt.

The crash remains under review. We hope both injured drivers make a speedy recovery.

Why Overturning Vehicles Can Cause Major Trauma

A vehicle may overturn when a strong sideways force shifts its weight beyond the tires. Contact near an intersection can change its direction suddenly, especially when one vehicle is struck along the side.

During a rollover, occupants may move in several directions as the vehicle rotates. Seat belts help keep people in their seats and reduce contact with the roof, doors, windows, and other passengers.

Vehicle height, travel speed, contact angle, and roadside terrain can influence whether a rollover occurs. Sport utility vehicles generally have a higher center of gravity than smaller cars, which can affect stability during sharp movements. Medical evaluations may check for head, neck, chest, and back trauma because symptoms are not always immediately apparent.
