Charlotte, NC (July 31, 2026) – Two people were hurt in a two-vehicle collision on Thursday morning at the intersection of N Sharon Amity Road and Hickory Grove Road in east Charlotte. The accident occurred shortly before 5:30 a.m., while a nearby power outage had left the traffic signals without electricity.
According to reports, the outage began just before 5 a.m. after fallen tree limbs damaged power equipment, affecting hundreds of customers in the surrounding area. One occupant had to be extricated from a vehicle before being taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Another person was treated for minor injuries.
Traffic signals at the intersection were restored around 6 a.m. as crews worked to clear the roadway. Additional details about those involved had not been released at the time of publication.
