What Factors Can Increase the Risk of Two-Vehicle Accidents?
Two-vehicle accidents can occur when drivers fail to see one another, misjudge traffic movements, or encounter changing road conditions. Intersections and roadway crossings can be especially challenging because vehicles may approach from different directions.
Visibility, vehicle speed, following distance, traffic signals, and driver attention can all affect the likelihood of a collision. Larger vehicles, such as SUVs, can also create blind spots that are difficult for other drivers to see around.
After a roadway accident, information about vehicle positions, roadway markings, traffic controls, and damage can help explain what happened. Witness accounts and available video may provide additional details. Medical evaluations can also establish the extent of harm when people are hurt in a traffic collision.
