Lexington, MO (June 02, 2026) – A three-vehicle crash on westbound I-70 at milepost 29.6 in Lafayette County left two people hurt on Monday morning. The collision was reported at 10:35 a.m. on Monday, June 1.

A 28-year-old man from Hazlehurst, Mississippi, driving a 2023 Volvo, was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, and a 56-year-old woman from Mayview, Missouri, driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor, was taken to a separate hospital with serious injuries. A 48-year-old man from Hannibal, Missouri, driving a 2024 Freightliner, was not listed among those hurt in the accident.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene following the collision. No names were included in the initial report on the crash.

The cause is still under review, and updates will be released as the investigation moves forward. We are thinking of both people who were hurt and hope they recover as fully as possible.

What to Know About Multi-Vehicle Crashes Involving Semi-Trucks on Missouri Interstates

Crashes on Missouri interstates involving large commercial trucks and passenger vehicles can produce very different outcomes for each driver, depending on the size and weight of the vehicles. A fully loaded commercial truck can weigh up to 80,000 pounds, while a standard passenger car or SUV typically weighs under 5,000 pounds. That difference in mass means the smaller vehicle absorbs a much greater share of the force in a collision.

When multiple vehicles are involved, investigators work to determine the sequence of contact: which vehicle struck which, and in what order. This is particularly complex when a large truck is part of the chain, since its size and stopping distance differ significantly from those of smaller vehicles. Physical evidence, black box data, and witness accounts all factor into that reconstruction.

Interstate crashes in Missouri are documented with precise milepost coordinates, which helps route investigation teams and emergency units to the exact spot quickly.
