Anchorage, AK (July 24, 2026) – Two people received minor injuries after a wheel-equipped Cessna 180 made a crash landing shortly after departing from Lake Hood Seaplane Base in Anchorage on Wednesday afternoon.
The emergency occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. while the aircraft was en route from Lake Hood to Merrill Field. According to investigators, the pilot reported a loss of engine power and attempted to return to Lake Hood before the aircraft came down. The plane sustained substantial damage during the landing.
Both occupants, identified as the pilot and a passenger, received medical care on-site. One of them was later taken to a nearby hospital for additional evaluation. It has not been determined whether the flight was a personal trip or an air taxi operation.
The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under review as investigators work to determine what led to the reported engine power loss.
