How Wet Road Conditions Can Affect Vehicle Control
Wet pavement can significantly reduce tire traction, making it more difficult for drivers to control their vehicles. Even a light layer of water can increase stopping distances and reduce the effectiveness of steering maneuvers.
When roads are wet, vehicles may be more likely to skid during braking or sudden changes in direction. Drivers often need additional space between vehicles to allow more time to react to changing traffic conditions.
Safety experts generally recommend reducing speed during rainy weather and avoiding abrupt steering or braking inputs. Properly maintained tires and adequate tread depth can also help improve grip on wet surfaces. These precautions can reduce the risk of collisions when roadway conditions become less favorable.
