Polk, WI (July 3, 2026) – Two people were seriously injured on Wednesday afternoon, July 1, after a head-on crash in the Town of Polk.
The crash happened at 12:24 p.m. on Highway 175, just south of Hillside Road. The Washington County Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls reporting the two-vehicle collision.
Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Slinger Fire Department members, and Lifestar rescue crews were sent to the roadway. When the first deputy arrived, officials determined that one driver needed to be extricated from a vehicle.
An initial investigation found that a northbound vehicle crossed the center line of Highway 175 and entered the path of a southbound vehicle. The drivers were identified only as a 63-year-old Hartford resident and a 46-year-old Germantown resident.
Both drivers were taken to local medical facilities with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Richfield Medical Interception was also requested to provide additional treatment for one of the drivers. The cause of the crash remains under review.
We hope both injured drivers make a swift and full recovery.
Entrapment After Head-On Crashes Brings Added Dangers
Head-on crashes can cause major damage because vehicles traveling in opposite directions collide with great force. Drivers may suffer head, chest, leg, or internal injuries, especially when the front of a vehicle absorbs most of the collision.
Entrapment adds another concern after a serious crash. Emergency units may need to stabilize the vehicle, remove damaged parts, and carefully free an injured person before medical care can continue.
Crashes on two-lane highways frequently require a detailed review. Investigators may examine lane markings, travel direction, speed, road surface, vehicle damage, and where each vehicle came to rest to understand how the collision happened.
