Aurora, IL (August 6, 2026) – Two people died after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 88 in Aurora early on Wednesday morning, August 5.
The crash occurred around 12:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-88 near Eola Rd. The Illinois State Police said two vehicles were involved, and one of the vehicles caught fire following the collision.
Two people were pronounced dead at the scene. Relatives identified the deceased as Kamal Ashrafi and Naima Ashrafi, a married couple who had been together since 2017. All lanes of the interstate were closed during the investigation and reopened around 5:22 a.m. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
