Why Head-On Crashes Can Be Especially Dangerous
Head-on crashes are among the most severe types of roadway collisions because the force of impact involves two vehicles moving toward each other. Even when vehicles have safety features such as airbags and restraints, these crashes can result in life-threatening injuries due to the amount of energy involved.
Investigators examine roadway layout, vehicle positions, and other evidence to understand how a head-on collision occurred. Curves, lane changes, visibility conditions, and driver actions can all affect how vehicles move on a roadway. A detailed review of the scene can help provide a clearer picture of the events leading up to the crash.
