Bennington, KS (June 22, 2026) – Two people lost their lives late on Saturday, June 20, after a car and a UTV were involved in an accident north of Bennington. The wreck happened at 9:03 p.m. near 180 Road and Ivy Road, about three miles north of town.
Ottawa County officials said the UTV failed to stop at an intersection and hit the car. Two people were riding in the UTV, while one person was inside the car.
The two UTV occupants were identified as Steven Hovey and Michelle Knight, both from rural Ottawa County. Knight died at the site, and Hovey was taken to a hospital, where he later passed away. However, the driver of the car was not injured.
The fatal collision remains under review as investigators continue gathering details. We extend our sincere condolences to the families and friends of Hovey and Knight.
