Mesa, AZ (August 11, 2026) – Two people were killed, and two others were seriously hurt in a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening near 7th Avenue and Stapley Drive. The collision occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday, August 9.
The vehicles involved were a pickup truck and an SUV. Idolinda Romero Apolinar, 44, and Gloria Apolinar Matias, 74, were identified as the two people who died. Both were occupants of the same vehicle.
One person died at the site, while the other was taken to a local hospital and later died. Two other adults involved in the collision suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said impairment was not believed to be a factor, while speed may have contributed to the collision. The investigation remains ongoing, and Stapley Drive has since reopened.
