Hartford, CT (June 1, 2026) – A vehicle struck and injured two pedestrians on Sunday night, May 31, in Hartford, according to fire district officials.
The collision happened around 10 p.m. in the area of Albany Avenue and Irving Street. Officials said both pedestrians were evaluated at the scene before being taken to a hospital by ambulance with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Authorities noted the nighttime crash came hours after a separate pedestrian collision earlier the same day in the city. That earlier incident occurred around 10:10 a.m. on New Britain Avenue, where a man in his 20s was struck and taken to a hospital in critical condition.
City police are investigating both crashes, and no additional details have been released. We are thinking of the pedestrians.
Why Pedestrian Strikes Often Result in Serious Harm
Pedestrian crashes can lead to significant injuries because people on foot have no physical protection from vehicles. Even at lower speeds, the force of impact can cause trauma requiring immediate medical attention.
Urban streets with multiple intersections and steady traffic flow can increase exposure risk for pedestrians, especially at night when visibility is reduced. Drivers may also have limited time to react when a person enters the roadway unexpectedly. After these incidents, investigators often review roadway lighting, crosswalk placement, and driver sightlines to better understand how the collision occurred.
