Liberty Grove, WI (July 28, 2026) – Two people suffered minor injuries after an ultralight aircraft crashed in a field along Eagle Lane in the Town of Liberty Grove on Sunday evening, July 26, according to official reports.

Deputies arrived at the scene around 7:41 p.m. in the area of 9956 Eagle Lane after receiving reports of a plane crash. Deputies found the ultralight aircraft upside down in a field. Initial information indicated the aircraft had departed from Ephraim-Gibraltar Airport for a planned one-hour flight before returning to the airport.

During the return flight, the aircraft reportedly experienced an engine failure, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing in an open field. The aircraft overturned during the landing. Both occupants escaped with minor cuts and scrapes and declined transportation to a hospital.

The incident remains under investigation by federal aviation officials.

Our thoughts are with everyone injured, and we hope they recover quickly.

What Is Examined After an Emergency Aircraft Landing?

When a small aircraft makes an emergency landing, investigators review several factors to determine what happened before the aircraft came to rest. The condition of the engine, fuel system, propeller, and flight controls may be examined alongside maintenance records and the pilot’s account of the flight. Weather, visibility, and terrain can also provide useful context.

The aircraft’s impact path and damage pattern may help show how the landing unfolded and why the aircraft overturned. Investigators may also inspect the landing area, review available flight data, and document any mechanical issues identified during the examination. These findings help clarify the event and may contribute to future aviation safety improvements.
