Nevada City, CA (August 25, 2026) – Two people were extricated after a two-vehicle wreck left one vehicle overturned on the southbound Golden Center Freeway near the Coyote Street off-ramp on Monday evening, August 24, according to dispatch logs. Cal Fire crews responded around 5:32 p.m. and freed both trapped occupants, one with moderate injuries and the other with minor injuries.
Tow trucks were requested to help clear the roadway.

Why Does Extricating Someone From a Rollover Take Longer Than From an Upright Vehicle?
When a vehicle comes to rest on its side or roof, the usual points of entry, like doors, no longer align the way they would on a vehicle sitting upright. Crews have to assess the vehicle’s exact position before deciding whether to work through a door, window, or the windshield.
Stabilizing the vehicle is typically the first step, since any additional shifting during extrication could worsen injuries for someone already trapped inside. This stabilization process takes time but is treated as essential before crews attempt to create an opening.
Because two people were trapped in the same vehicle here, crews also had to manage extricating each person without causing further harm to the other, which can add complexity compared to freeing a single occupant. This kind of coordinated effort is part of why a rollover extrication often takes considerably longer than a standard tow.
