The Tesla was reported to have rolled off the embankment on the right side of the freeway, while the pickup stopped on the shoulder. Medical assistance was requested at about 3:39 p.m., indicating that at least one person was hurt. A tow request was later made for a silver Tesla roughly 15 feet off the roadway.
The cause of the wreck is still under review. We hope those injured have a speedy recovery.
Why Freeway Departures Can Have Serious Consequences
Vehicles exiting a freeway may encounter steep slopes, uneven ground, barriers, or fixed objects beyond the shoulder. These hazards may create forces that differ from those in a typical lane-to-lane contact. An embankment can also cause abrupt changes in speed or direction.
Vehicle design, seat belt use, travel speed, and the angle of departure can all affect injury severity. The distance traveled beyond the pavement may also matter, especially when a car comes to rest well away from traffic lanes.
Medical symptoms are not always obvious immediately after a forceful roadway departure. Neck pain, back pain, headaches, or bruising can become more noticeable later. Treatment records, photographs, repair estimates, and insurance documents can help preserve a clear account of what followed and the physical or property losses involved.
