Oran, IA (July 8, 2026) – Two women were seriously hurt on Monday morning after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 60th St and Y Ave, approximately two miles north of Oran. The collision was reported at approximately 10:31 a.m. on Monday, July 7.
Kayla Marie Scheffert, 34, of Sumner, was driving east on 60th St in a white 2023 Toyota Camry when Britney Ann Lawrence, 35, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, failed to yield at the intersection while driving north on Y Ave in a maroon 2013 Kia Sorento and struck Scheffert’s car on the side. Both vehicles rolled into the northeast ditch and were declared total losses.
Scheffert was trapped in the Toyota and had to be mechanically extracted from the wreck. She sought medical treatment in her own vehicle after being freed. Lawrence was also temporarily trapped in the Kia and was extracted with help from emergency units before being taken to Sumner Hospital. Lawrence was cited for failing to obey a stop sign and for failing to yield the right of way.
The accident remains under review. We hope both women make full recoveries.
