WEST MANSFIELD, Union County, Ohio, Nov. 8, 2026 — Three people were hurt on Thursday morning, November 5, in a crash between a semi-truck and a passenger car at the intersection of State Route 31 and Miller Road in Union County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox was headed eastbound on Miller Road and reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the SR 31 intersection. The SUV was struck by a 2020 Peterbilt semi-tractor-trailer traveling northbound on SR 31. The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the Equinox driver as Miranda Ostrander, 34, of West Mansfield, Ohio, and the truck driver as George Gulledge, 52, of Dublin, Ohio.
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene. Ostrander, Gulledge, and a six-year-old child who was riding in the Equinox in a child restraint seat were all taken to Memorial Hospital of Union County by ground ambulance. The child's injuries were described as minor; the extent of the adults' injuries was not detailed in the release.
The crash also ruptured the semi's fuel tank, spilling more than 120 gallons of diesel at the scene. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency responded to contain and dispose of the fuel. Responders on scene included the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Union County Sheriff's Office, Northwestern Fire and EMS, North Union Fire and EMS, and the Marysville Fire Department. Kirby's and Osborne Towing removed the vehicles.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation.
We hope those who were hurt recover fully and quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does driver fatigue play a role in truck crashes?
Fatigue is a recognized factor in commercial truck crashes, since long hauls and tight schedules can slow a driver's reaction time. Investigators typically review hours-of-service logs as part of a crash probe.
What should I do after a crash involving a commercial truck?
Call 911, stay away from any leaking fluids or damaged fuel tanks, and wait for police and fire crews to clear the scene before approaching the vehicles.
Why do trucks need more distance to stop than cars?
A loaded semi-truck can weigh tens of thousands of pounds more than a passenger car, so it needs considerably more distance and time to slow down or stop, especially at intersections.
What makes truck crashes more dangerous than typical car crashes?
The size and weight difference between a truck and a passenger vehicle means occupants of the smaller car usually absorb more of the force in a collision, which can lead to more serious injuries.
