What Makes Multi-Truck Highway Crashes Especially Severe?
Crashes involving multiple large trucks on highways often result in severe outcomes due to vehicle size, weight, and limited maneuverability. When one commercial vehicle overturns, it can block multiple lanes and increase the risk of secondary collisions.
Investigators typically examine speed, braking distance, and lane positioning to determine how the crash developed. Entrapment cases often require detailed scene reconstruction to understand how occupants became trapped and when rescue efforts began. Highway conditions such as lighting, traffic congestion, and roadway design are also reviewed. In many incidents, electronic logging data and vehicle control modules from commercial trucks can help provide insight into speed and braking patterns leading up to the collision.
