Why Waterway and Trail Hazards Can Increase UTV Risks
UTVs are commonly used on trails, farmland, and other rural property, but uneven ground and nearby waterways can create added dangers for drivers and passengers. Loose soil, steep edges, and wet terrain may reduce traction and make it harder to control the vehicle, especially when traveling near ditches or creeks.
Rollovers are among the most serious types of UTV-related accidents. These vehicles usually have a higher center of gravity than standard passenger cars, which can increase the chance of tipping during sudden turns or when leaving a marked path. Safety restraints and protective equipment may help reduce the severity of injuries during overturns. Young passengers can also face greater risks because of their smaller size and limited ability to brace during sudden movement.
