Uxbridge, MA (January 7, 2026) – A Uxbridge police officer was killed early Wednesday morning while on duty, following a crash on Route 146 amid icy road conditions. Officer Stephen LaPorta, 43, was assisting a driver on the northbound side of the highway when he was fatally struck. The collision occurred at approximately 12:40 a.m.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and attempted lifesaving measures, but Officer LaPorta was pronounced dead at the scene. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed, and it remains unclear how many vehicles were involved. Officer LaPorta had been with the Uxbridge Police Department since June 2024 and was recognized for his dedication to public service in a recent department post.
