How Head-On Collisions Occur on Rural Roads
Head-on crashes are among the most serious types of roadway incidents, often leading to severe or fatal injuries due to the combined force of both vehicles. These collisions can happen when a driver crosses the center line, whether due to distraction, fatigue, or a medical issue.
Rural roads, such as Cole Grade Road, may increase the risk of these crashes. Narrow lanes, limited lighting, and higher travel speeds can reduce reaction time and make it harder to avoid an oncoming vehicle.
Road markings, such as double yellow lines, are meant to separate opposing traffic and reduce the chance of crossover incidents. Staying alert, maintaining proper lane position, and avoiding risky maneuvers can help lower the risk of head-on collisions on these types of roads.
