Valley Station, KY (April 30, 2026) – A trooper suffered minor injuries in a three-vehicle crash on Dixie Highway in Jefferson County on Thursday, April 30.
The collision happened near the 15000 block of Dixie Highway, about four miles south of the Gene Snyder Freeway in Valley Station. Authorities said 33-year-old David Huggins, of Louisville, was driving a Mitsubishi Mirage southbound when it collided with a pickup truck also heading south.
The impact caused the pickup truck to spin into the northbound lanes. Trooper Lukas Jones was traveling northbound in a marked cruiser when his vehicle struck the passenger side of the Ford Ranger.
Authorities said Huggins left the scene southbound on Dixie Highway toward Radcliff. He was later found in Vine Grove and taken into custody.
Huggins faces charges that include two counts of second-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident, and a first offense driving under the influence charge with aggravated circumstances. Jones was taken to a hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released.
The crash remains under investigation. Additional details may become available as authorities continue their review. We extend our thoughts to those injured and wish them a full recovery.
How Multi-Vehicle Crashes Can Spread Across Lanes
Three-vehicle crashes can become dangerous quickly when one impact pushes a vehicle into another lane. A pickup truck or car may spin, slide, or cross into oncoming traffic, which can leave other drivers with little time to react.
Roadway direction is often a key part of these crashes. When vehicles are moving in opposite directions, the damage can be more severe because of the combined force. Even minor injuries may require hospital care after a hard impact.
Hit-and-run crashes can add more risk after the first collision. People at the scene may need help, lanes may remain blocked, and emergency units may have to manage both medical care and roadway safety at the same time.
