How Pedestrian Interstate Crashes Commonly Occur
Pedestrian incidents on interstate highways often result in fatal outcomes due to high travel speeds and limited safe crossing points. Drivers may have very little time to react when a person is in active traffic lanes, especially during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced.
These situations are typically investigated by reviewing roadway access points, lighting conditions, and traffic patterns to understand how a pedestrian reached the main lanes. Even when drivers respond immediately, stopping distances at highway speeds can make avoidance extremely difficult. Investigators may also analyze vehicle positioning and witness statements to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
