What Investigators Look for After a Fatal Apartment Fire
Following a fatal residential fire, investigators work to determine the fire’s origin and cause by examining burn patterns, electrical systems, appliances, and other potential ignition sources. They may also interview witnesses and review any available surveillance footage.
Fire investigators and the medical examiner will work together to establish the circumstances surrounding the death. While many residential fires are determined to be accidental, officials carefully examine all available evidence before reaching a conclusion. The investigation may take several days or longer, depending on the complexity of the scene.
