VICTORVILLE, San Bernardino County, Calif., Sept. 17, 2026 — At least two people were taken to a hospital after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night, September 16, at the intersection of La Mesa Road and El Evado Road in Victorville.

Authorities said the crash involved a Tesla and a Ford EcoSport and was reported at about 10:07 p.m. The Tesla reportedly sustained major damage to the driver's side, while the Ford had major front-end damage.

Fire crews responded to the scene and said no one needed to be extricated from either vehicle. All occupants were able to get out on their own before being taken for medical evaluation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Victorville Police Department. We wish the injured a swift and full recovery.

Two-Vehicle Intersection Crashes by the Numbers

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 17,008 motor-vehicle crash deaths occurred outside passenger vehicles in crashes involving passenger vehicles in 2023. That figure includes pedestrians, cyclists, and occupants of other vehicle types struck by passenger cars and SUVs, a reminder that intersection collisions often affect more than just the people inside the two vehicles that made contact.

Intersections concentrate risk because they combine crossing paths, turning movements, and varying speeds in one small area. A vehicle entering from a side street, misjudging a gap, or failing to stop in time can turn a routine crossing into a multi-car collision within seconds.

Modern vehicles, including electric models like the Tesla involved in this crash, are built with crumple zones designed to absorb impact and protect occupants. Even so, the outcome for anyone involved often depends on speed, angle of impact, and how quickly emergency crews can respond.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does distracted driving cause so many intersection crashes?

Even a few seconds looking away from the road, such as checking a phone, can mean missing a stop sign, a light change, or another vehicle entering the intersection, which is often enough time for a collision to occur.

How much do weather and road conditions factor into these crashes?

Wet pavement, low visibility, and glare from sunlight or headlights can all extend stopping distances and make it harder for drivers to judge when it's safe to proceed through an intersection.

What should someone do right after a car accident?

Check for injuries, move to a safe location if possible, call 911, and exchange information with the other driver. Photographing the scene and vehicle damage can help later, and it's wise to seek a medical check even if injuries aren't immediately obvious.

What to Do After a Car Accident in Victorville, CA

Anyone involved in a crash in Victorville should first make sure everyone is safe and call for emergency help if needed. Even when injuries seem minor, a medical evaluation is a good idea, since some injuries from a collision don't show symptoms right away.

It also helps to get a copy of the police report once it's available and to document the scene with photos if it's safe to do so. Keeping records of any medical visits or vehicle repairs tied to the crash can make things easier down the road, whether for insurance purposes or simply to have a clear account of what happened.
