Why Scooter Riders Face Increased Risks in Hit-and-Run Crashes
Scooter riders are more vulnerable during traffic collisions because they have little protection from direct impacts. Even crashes at moderate speeds can result in injuries due to falls onto the roadway or contact with nearby vehicles.
Hit-and-run incidents can also delay the collection of details about how a crash occurred, especially when drivers leave before investigators arrive. Surveillance footage, roadway evidence, and witness accounts are often reviewed to help identify the vehicle involved.
Roads with steady evening traffic and multiple turning points may increase the chances of collisions involving scooters and smaller personal vehicles. Visibility conditions and driver awareness can also affect how safely vehicles share the roadway.
