How Tire Failures Can Lead to Highway Collisions in Texas
Tire problems are a known risk factor in highway crashes, especially on rural routes like US 77. When a tire fails at higher speeds, drivers may struggle to keep control of their vehicle. Sudden swerving or drifting into another lane can happen within seconds.
Highways that carry both local and through traffic often see vehicles traveling at consistent speeds. If one vehicle crosses the center line unexpectedly, oncoming drivers may have little time to react. Even quick braking may not prevent a collision.
Routine tire inspections, checking air pressure, and replacing worn tires can help reduce the chance of a blowout. Drivers who experience a tire issue are generally advised to grip the steering wheel firmly, ease off the accelerator, and guide the vehicle safely to the shoulder if possible.
