Frequently Asked Questions
Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries than car crashes?
Riders have no frame, airbags, or seatbelts around them, so the force of a collision passes directly to the rider rather than being absorbed by a vehicle structure.
How do crashes happen at intersections like this one?
Collisions at intersections commonly happen when a turning or crossing vehicle fails to see an oncoming motorcycle, misjudges its speed, or pulls into its path.
What can drivers do to watch for motorcycles more effectively?
Checking twice before turning or changing lanes, and allowing extra following distance, gives drivers more time to spot a motorcycle's smaller profile.
What should a rider or witness do after a motorcycle crash?
Call 911 immediately, avoid moving an injured rider unless there is an immediate danger like fire, and wait for police and paramedics to reach the scene.
