Wasco, CA (January 19, 2026) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident that occurred Saturday afternoon on State Route 46 near Smith Ave, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision was reported around 1:16 p.m. and involved a white truck and a tan sedan. The crash happened just west of Smith Ave under conditions that reportedly included heavy fog, though the official cause has not yet been determined.
Emergency responders arrived to find significant damage to both vehicles and confirmed that one individual had died as a result of the crash. No other injuries were immediately reported.
Both the truck and sedan were removed from the scene as officials worked to reopen the roadway. The identity of the person who died has not been released pending notification of the family.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the collision, including whether reduced visibility or driver error may have played a role.
