Washington Township, NJ (March 31, 2026) – A man was arrested after allegedly stealing a flatbed tow truck and crashing it at Delsea Drive and Salina Road in Washington Township.
The incident was reported around 1:49 PM on Monday, March 30. Investigators said the tow truck had been taken about a mile north along Delsea Drive near Egg Harbor Road while an employee was securing another vehicle. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Dylan Davis of Mantua, reportedly drove off in the truck, causing the employee to be thrown from the vehicle and injured.
Authorities said the truck was driven erratically for about a mile before crossing into oncoming traffic and striking two other vehicles. The drivers of those vehicles were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Davis then attempted to flee on foot but was quickly taken into custody at the scene.
Officials believe Davis may have been under the influence, and a warrant was obtained for a blood draw at a local hospital. Authorities continue to investigate the crash, and more details will be released as they become available.
We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
How Stolen Vehicle Incidents Can Lead to Serious Crashes
When a vehicle is stolen, especially a large or heavy one like a tow truck, the risk of a crash increases significantly. Drivers who take vehicles unlawfully may not be familiar with handling them, which can lead to poor control and unsafe driving behavior.
Erratic driving, speeding, and failure to follow traffic laws can quickly create dangerous situations for others on the road. Larger vehicles can also cause more damage due to their size and weight, increasing the likelihood of injuries when a crash occurs.
Quick response from emergency crews and law enforcement helps reduce further risk, provide care to those hurt, and secure the scene after such incidents.
