Why Rollover Crashes Often Lead to Severe Injuries
Rollover crashes are among the most dangerous types of traffic accidents. When a vehicle overturns, occupants can be thrown around inside the vehicle or ejected if they are not properly restrained.
These crashes often occur when a vehicle leaves the roadway and strikes uneven ground, soft shoulders, or roadside obstacles. Sudden steering movements or high speeds may also contribute to a vehicle losing stability and rolling over.
SUVs and other taller vehicles have a higher center of gravity, which can increase the chance of rolling when control is lost. During a rollover, the force of the crash may cause the roof, doors, and windows to collapse or shatter, increasing the risk of serious injury to those inside.
