Frequently Asked Questions
Are intersections a common site for motorcycle crashes?
Yes. Intersections involve turning and crossing traffic, which raises the chance that a driver fails to see an approaching motorcycle in time to react.
Does road surface play a role in motorcycle safety?
It can. Loose gravel, potholes, wet pavement, and uneven lane markings affect a motorcycle's traction and stability far more than they affect a car or van.
What gear helps reduce injury for riders?
A DOT-approved helmet, a reinforced jacket and pants, gloves, and over-the-ankle boots are widely recommended to reduce the severity of injuries in a crash.
What typically causes motorcycle accidents?
Common factors include a driver failing to yield or see a motorcycle, speeding, distracted driving, and sudden lane changes near an intersection.
What to Do After a Motorcycle Crash in Wayne, NJ
After a motorcycle crash, try to move to a safe location if possible and call 911 right away. Even if injuries seem minor, a medical evaluation is important, since some injuries, especially to the head or joints, are not obvious right away.
Make sure to exchange information with other drivers involved and note any contact information for witnesses nearby. If police respond, ask how to obtain a copy of the official report once it is filed.
Take photos of the vehicles, the roadway, and any visible injuries if you're able to safely do so. Keep records of medical visits and any time missed from work, as these details can matter later.
