West Warwick, RI (March 14, 2026) – Authorities arrested an 18-year-old driver following a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian seriously injured on Friday in West Warwick.
Officers with the West Warwick Police Department responded to the incident along Providence Street in West Warwick, Rhode Island, after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.
Investigators said the driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. Emergency responders transported the injured pedestrian to a nearby hospital for treatment of a serious leg injury.
During the investigation, police reviewed surveillance footage from nearby businesses along Providence Street. Authorities also recovered a side-view mirror that had broken off the suspect vehicle and was left behind at the scene.
Using the available evidence, officers identified the driver as 18-year-old Mason St. Amant. Police located the suspect shortly after the incident and arrested him.
Officials said St. Amant is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities gather additional details about the crash.
