Wet Pavement Can Quickly Change Highway Driving Risks
Wet pavement can reduce tire grip and make it harder for drivers to steer or brake safely. When water builds up on a highway, a vehicle may slide or drift before the driver can regain control.
Speed, tire tread, road slope, and standing water can all affect how a vehicle moves on slick pavement. A median strike can also redirect a vehicle into nearby lanes, creating danger for other drivers who have little time to react.
Morning travel can add more challenges when roads are wet. Low light, spray from other vehicles, and fast-moving traffic may reduce visibility. After a severe wet-road collision, reviews usually focus on lane movement, road surface, vehicle damage, and traffic flow before contact.
