Frequently Asked Questions
Why does following distance matter so much in traffic generally?
Keeping space between vehicles gives drivers time to react when something unexpected happens ahead, whether that's sudden braking or a vehicle leaving its intended path. Less following distance means less time to stop or steer clear.
Do crashes like this tend to cause additional, secondary incidents?
Yes. Once a vehicle leaves the roadway or a crowd scatters, bystanders, responders, and other vehicles can be put at risk in the ensuing chaos, which is part of why scenes like this are carefully cleared and secured before traffic resumes.
Why are incidents involving many injured people hard to investigate?
Investigators have to sort through multiple witness accounts, medical records, and physical evidence from a wide area, often while victims are still being treated. That can slow down any official determination of what happened and why.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Wichita, KS
If you or someone with you is involved in a vehicle incident in a crowded public space, call 911 immediately and move to safety if possible.
