Wichita, KS (April 16, 2026) – A 22-year-old Wichita man died Tuesday, April 8, after being thrown from his motorcycle in a collision at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Oliver Avenue. Emergency units arrived just before 3:30 p.m. and found the victim, identified as Blaise Stewart, on the ground at the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation, a Kia Soul was turning from Oliver Avenue onto Lincoln Street when it struck the motorcycle. The force of the impact caused the car to flip. The driver of the Kia was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators believe speed may have been a factor in the crash. No further details about the circumstances have been confirmed at this time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and more details will be released as they become available. We extend our sincere condolences to Blaise Stewart’s family and loved ones.

What Wichita Drivers Should Know About Intersection Motorcycle Crashes

Intersection crashes involving motorcycles are among the most deadly types of collisions on city roads. Turning vehicles are a leading factor, as drivers of cars often misjudge the speed of an oncoming motorcycle or fail to see it altogether. The smaller profile of a motorcycle makes it harder to spot, especially at busy urban intersections.

Speed is frequently examined in these cases because it affects both stopping distance and the severity of impact. Even a modest increase in speed can dramatically change the outcome of a collision, particularly when a rider is unprotected. Intersections with multiple turning movements create more opportunities for these kinds of conflicts between vehicles.

In Kansas, traffic safety researchers consistently identify urban intersections as high-risk zones for motorcycle riders.
