Valley Center, KS (July 29, 2026) – A 46-year-old Wichita man died on Monday night, July 27, after his motorcycle ended up in the northbound lanes of Meridian Avenue near 109th Street North and was struck by an SUV, according to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office. Guerrero Moreno Jr. had been riding south on Meridian around 9 p.m. when, for reasons still unknown, he crossed into the opposite lanes and came to rest in the roadway.
The SUV’s driver, a 68-year-old Sedgwick woman, struck Moreno and the motorcycle. She suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Moreno was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing. Our condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

When a motorcycle unexpectedly crosses into opposing traffic, investigators typically consider a range of possible explanations rather than assuming any single cause. A sudden mechanical failure, a medical emergency, a road hazard, or momentary loss of control can all lead to the same outcome on a motorcycle, which has no frame to compensate for a rider losing balance or control.
