How Ejection and Entrapment Affect Crash Outcomes
In serious vehicle crashes, occupants may become trapped inside damaged vehicles or, in some cases, be ejected. Entrapment can occur when the vehicle structure collapses or doors become jammed, requiring specialized tools to remove those inside.
Ejection from a vehicle often leads to more severe injuries because the person is no longer protected by the vehicle’s structure. Seat belt use is one factor that can reduce the risk of ejection during a crash.
The severity of injuries in these situations can depend on impact force, vehicle speed, and the seating position of occupants. Emergency response teams are trained to handle both entrapment and ejection cases quickly to provide care and safe removal.
