The crash occurred around 11:15 a.m. in front of the Little Mart located at 201 Tandberg Trail along Route 115. According to investigators, a contractor-owned van was attempting to turn left out of the parking lot to head west on Tandberg Trail when it collided with an eastbound motorcycle.
Emergency units responded to the scene and transported the motorcycle rider to a hospital with serious injuries. Officials confirmed that the driver of the van was not hurt in the collision. The identities of those involved have not been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details may be released at a later time.
We are thinking of the injured rider as recovery continues.
Why Left-Turn Motorcycle Crashes Are Common
Motorcycle crashes involving left-turning vehicles are among the most common types of roadway collisions involving riders. Drivers exiting parking lots or side roads may misjudge the speed or distance of an approaching motorcycle, especially when traffic is moving quickly on two-lane roads.
Because motorcycles are smaller and less visible than passenger vehicles, riders are often at greater risk during turning conflicts. Investigators reviewing these crashes typically examine sightlines, traffic flow, and the timing of vehicle movements before impact. Even at moderate speeds, motorcycle collisions can lead to serious injuries due to the limited protection available to riders.
