Why Highway Crossings Can Lead to Serious Crashes
Intersections where local roads cross major highways can present safety challenges for drivers. Vehicles entering or crossing a highway must judge the speed and distance of approaching traffic, which can be difficult when vehicles are traveling at higher speeds.
Drivers on the highway often have limited time to react when another vehicle enters their path. Even a small miscalculation can lead to a collision, especially when traffic is steady. Wide highways with multiple lanes may increase the time needed for a vehicle to fully cross.
Visibility, traffic flow, and driver attention all affect how safely these crossings occur. When vehicles approach from different directions at the same time, the risk of a crash can increase.
