Grand Rapids Township, MN (August 24, 2026) – A 42-year-old woman was killed, and two people suffered life-threatening injuries in a head-on crash on Saturday afternoon, August 22, on US Highway 2.
The collision happened around 4:34 p.m. near 17th Avenue NW in Itasca County. A Chevy Colorado was traveling west on US Highway 2 while a Chevy Impala was heading east. The vehicles collided head-on in the eastbound lanes. The Impala driver, 42-year-old Janelle Marie Swenson of Cohasset, was pronounced dead in the crash.
The Colorado driver, 38-year-old Kerri Ellen Hart of Deer River, and her 41-year-old passenger, Jack Leroy Drumbeater of Cohasset, suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center.
