Bartow County, GA (May 26, 2026) – A Cartersville woman died Sunday morning following a multi-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 411 east of Hamilton Crossing Road in Bartow County.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, troopers were called to the roadway around 10:31 a.m. Preliminary findings indicated that a black Dodge Durango was traveling eastbound when the driver reportedly failed to maintain her lane and struck a gray GMC Acadia traveling alongside it.
Investigators said the Durango then crossed the median and entered the westbound lanes, where it hit a white Ford Mustang before striking a white Toyota Land Cruiser. The SUV was later overturned and came to rest on its passenger side. The Durango driver, identified as 24-year-old Cynthia Moore of Cartersville, lost her life at the scene.
The driver and passenger inside the Toyota Land Cruiser were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported in the wreck.
Troopers continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the deadly highway collision in Bartow County. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Cynthia Moore.
Why Median-Crossing Highway Crashes Often Involve Multiple Vehicles
When a vehicle crosses a highway median, drivers traveling in the opposite direction may have very little time to avoid a collision. These roadway crashes can quickly involve several vehicles because traffic is often moving at high speeds in both directions.
Loss of lane control, sudden steering movements, and vehicle rotation after an initial impact can increase the likelihood of secondary collisions. Investigators commonly review roadway markings, vehicle speed, driver actions, and traffic conditions after these types of crashes occur. Median-crossing collisions are often severe because vehicles may strike each other head-on or at sharp angles, resulting in significant impact forces.
