Topeka, KS (May 26, 2026) – One man was taken to a hospital Tuesday morning after a two-vehicle accident in southwest Topeka.
The collision was reported at about 8:23 a.m. near the 3100 block of Southwest Gage Boulevard, close to the on-ramp for westbound Interstate 470. Authorities said a 2015 GMC Yukon and a 2012 Honda Odyssey were involved.
The Honda driver, identified as 30-year-old Trevor Don Eggenberger of Topeka, was taken by ambulance to Stormont Vail Hospital with suspected minor injuries. The Kansas Highway Patrol said he was not wearing a seat belt.
The GMC driver, 44-year-old Amber Lynette Shepherd, and her passenger, 15-year-old Zephyr Lee Platt, were not hurt. Both are from Silver Lake and were wearing seat belts, according to the report.
The cause of the wreck remains under review as investigators continue gathering details. We hope the injured man recovers quickly after receiving care.
Why Two-Vehicle Accidents Near Ramps Can Lead to Injuries
Two-vehicle accidents near highway ramps can happen when traffic patterns change quickly. Drivers may be slowing, merging, turning, or preparing to enter faster-moving lanes. These movements can reduce reaction time and make it harder to avoid contact.
Even crashes that result in minor injuries may still require medical checks. A sudden jolt can cause neck, back, shoulder, chest, or limb pain. Investigators may review lane position, vehicle damage, traffic flow, road markings, and driver statements. These details can help explain how the vehicles came together and why one person needed hospital care.
