Why Seat Belt Use Is Especially Important During Rollover Crashes
Rollover crashes usually lead to severe injuries because occupants can be thrown against the inside of the vehicle or partially ejected during the sequence. These wrecks may happen when a driver loses control, leaves the roadway, or overcorrects while traveling at higher speeds.
Seat belts are designed to help keep people secured in their seats during sudden movement. Safety experts say restraint systems can reduce the likelihood of fatal injuries during a rollover by limiting how far occupants move inside the vehicle.
After a rollover collision, investigators commonly examine tire marks, roadway conditions, vehicle damage, and the truck’s final resting place. They may also review whether occupants were wearing seat belts and how the vehicle left the roadway before overturning.
