Houston, TX (September 1, 2026) – A woman died, and two others were injured Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash on E Orem Dr near Martindale Dr in southeast Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. The police said a Jeep SUV was traveling westbound on E Orem Dr at a high rate of speed when it collided with a Honda Accord that was exiting a residential neighborhood.

A woman inside the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers in the Honda were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Jeep and a juvenile inside the SUV were reportedly unharmed. Officers at the scene said the Jeep driver showed signs of intoxication.

Detectives said the driver could face a reckless manslaughter charge, with the charge potentially upgraded after the Harris County District Attorney’s Office reviews the evidence. The investigation remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and the two injured people during this difficult time.

Why Do Car Accidents Usually Result in Fatalities?

Two-vehicle crashes can result in serious injuries or fatalities, particularly when one vehicle is traveling at a high rate of speed. The severity of a crash may depend on factors including vehicle speed, direction of travel, roadway design, and the point of contact between the vehicles.

Alleged impaired driving can also affect a driver’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. Alcohol can impair judgment, reaction time, coordination, and the ability to recognize roadway hazards.

After a serious crash, investigators may examine witness statements, vehicle damage, roadway conditions, surveillance footage, and toxicology evidence when available. These materials can help establish the circumstances surrounding the event.

People injured in a crash may face medical expenses and other losses. If you or a loved one has been hurt in a collision, consulting a qualified legal professional can help you understand potential options for pursuing compensation.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
