MARENGO, McHenry County, Ill., Oct. 31, 2026 — An elderly woman was pulled from an overturned SUV on Wednesday afternoon, October 28, after her vehicle collided with a pickup truck towing a dump trailer near Woodstock, Illinois, fire officials said. The pickup jackknifed in the crash.
The crash happened around 4:49 p.m. at the intersection of Vermont Road and Collins Road in unincorporated Woodstock, according to the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts and the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, which responded to a report of a crash with entrapment. A GMC Yukon rolled into a roadside ditch and landed on its roof. The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD pulling the trailer jackknifed at the same intersection.
Early radio traffic indicated the woman driving the GMC was conscious and breathing but trapped inside the overturned vehicle with a leg injury, Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said. A medical helicopter had been placed on standby but was canceled once firefighters arrived and confirmed the two vehicles had collided, Vucha said. Crews freed the woman without needing extrication tools.
Paramedics evaluated her at the scene, but she declined further treatment and transport to a hospital. The Chevrolet's driver was not hurt, Vucha said. The Chevrolet carried markings for Jason Kruse Inc., a Wonder Lake contracting company. The intersection was closed temporarily while crews worked.
What led to the crash has not been determined. No citations or charges have been announced, and the McHenry County Sheriff's Office is still investigating.
We hope those who were hurt recover fully and quickly.

Move to a safe spot if possible, check for injuries, call 911, and wait for police or fire crews to document the scene before discussing fault.
Where do most traffic crashes happen?

What are common injuries in rollover crashes?
Leg and head injuries are common when a vehicle lands on its roof, along with cuts and bruising from being thrown against the interior.
