What Should Workers Know About Equipment Safety?

Industrial equipment can present serious hazards when machinery or heavy components move unexpectedly. Workers should follow established safety procedures and remain aware of equipment that is being lifted, moved, repaired, or positioned. Proper training can help employees recognize hazards before beginning a task.

Employers and workers should also make sure equipment is properly secured before work is performed nearby. Safety guards and other protective systems should remain in place when required. Workers should never place their hands or other body parts in areas where moving or falling equipment could cause an injury.

Personal protective equipment can provide another layer of protection in industrial environments. Depending on the task, this may include gloves, protective footwear, eye protection, hearing protection, or other equipment. Following workplace safety procedures and reporting hazards promptly can help reduce the risk of serious injuries.
