San Jose, CA (August 27, 2026) – A Department of Transportation worker died on Tuesday after a box truck struck a crane truck in San Jose.
The collision happened around 10:30 a.m. beneath an overpass at Hillsdale Ave near Guadalupe Pkwy. The worker was inside the crane truck’s bucket while repairing a streetlight when the box truck struck the vehicle, causing him to fall.
The worker was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The city confirmed that he was a Department of Transportation employee, but his identity had not been released. The box truck driver remained at the site and spoke with investigators. The circumstances surrounding the wreck remain under review.
